Our Stay on the Osage Prairie

Another Short Drive

On Tuesday, August 22, 2017, we are taking a short drive to Nevada, MO, from our stay at the Parsons Lake, in KS.  We traveled 20 miles east on US400, to Pittsburg, KS, north on US69 to Ft. Scott, KS, about 30 miles, and east on US54 to Nevada, MO, about 20 miles.

As we got to the Nevada city limits, we found a grocery store with a parking lot big enough for the RV.  We stocked up on groceries and ice.

Cottey College

I always enjoy the drive through Nevada on US54.  The central attraction is Cottey College.  They have a nice campus.  It is a private liberal arts and sciences college for women, offering two-year associates programs.

A Welcomed Sight!

As we made our turn onto the street leading to the Osage Prairie RV Park, we saw an unusual sight, a drive-through truck wash.  The big bay for trucks was complete with ladders on both sides leading to platforms at least six feet high.  There was room to wash the RV!  Connie was pleased to get the house washed!  It only took about $10 to wash both the truck and the RV.

Western Motif

The Osage Prairie RV Park had an old frontier town design to its office building.  The RV sites were flat, gravel based, along with wide gravel drives.  The office building had a large porch with log rails, no paint.  It houses the laundry, as well.  Next to the office is the pool, which is about 30 feet long and about 8 feet wide.  That is big enough for some lap swimming.  Around the pool, there is a garden of wild flowers and prairie grasses.  We had time to experience the pool after setting up our camp site.  It was hot and a welcome cool down.

A Quiet Day

Wednesday was a sunny, quiet day.  No urgent things to do.  I did some reading while helping with the laundry (a rarity, I know).  Then, we spent a long time in the pool.  I had lost a few pounds since starting this adventure.  So, I knew I needed to make an effort to work out.  I did 24 laps (Short ones, I know) as I was the only one swimming.  Connie did a lot of reading.

Break Time Is Over

This was our only stop where we NEVER left the RV Park.  Over the past two months, it was very hard for us to sit still.  There is so much curiosity to see the unknown when traveling areas you have never been before.

After traveling for two months, my knees were aching.  I needed shots in my knees to relieve the bone on bone aggravation.  That is a problem when hiking to see special sights.

A Review of Pictures

As I compiled this blog, I realized I had no pictures of our stay in Nevada, MO.  So, I thought I would include a brief review of some of our many stops leading up to this one.

Back to Familiar Faces

On Thursday, we broke camp about 9:40 a.m.  Another short travel day for our last leg of the trip home, up I-49 to the Kansas City area.  Our reservation was a two-week stay at the Blue Springs Lake Campground.  This ia a fairly new campground.  Jackson County has invested in RV parks near each of the County Lakes—Blue Springs, Jacamo, and Longview.

A Visit Begins

This was to be a time to visit and a time to take care of medical appointments.  Our next goal was to make our way to the west coast by following the old Route 66 (US66 Highway).  For some insights into what full-time RVers do during an extended stay, join me in my next blog.  Until then, safe travels!
